Breeding Crown and

Elite Breeding Crown

There have been many quality performance ponies bred over the years with a great majority remaining largely unrecognised outside of the show arena.  With the advent of pony dressage and jumping, and although these disciplines are still very much in their infancy, quality performance ponies are competing successfully at State and now National level for dressage and jumping.  However, it is the breeding value of the bloodlines of these successful ponies that needs to be recognised and recorded for future breeders and riders.

To this end, the ASPR has introduced the Breeding Crown titles for stallions and mares who can gain these titles through progeny performances.

Breeding Crown titles are open to both ponies and horses registered with the ASPR.

Stallions and mare do not have to complete a Stallion/Mare Test (AU) to be eligible for a Breeding Crown, nor do they have to have been assessed.  The stallion or mare must be at least registered non-assessed with the ASPR (and the owner a current member) to be eligible to have progeny results calculated for a Breeding Crown.

Once a Breeding Crown is gained, the stallion or mare will have the initials BC recorded after their registered name in the ASPR online stud book.  Stallions and mares gaining an Elite Breeding Crown title will have EBC recorded after their registered name.  Breeders and potential owners and riders can see at a glance that the stallion or mare has consistently produced progeny to a high standard.  All stallions and mares that are awarded a Breeding Crown or Elite Breeding Crown title may advertise them as such, establishing an instantly recognised standard of excellence.

As the Breeding Crowns are a new initiative in Australia, stallions and mares may earn these titles retrospectively. Following successful registration with the ASPR (and the owner becoming a financial member), all applications for the titles will be considered.

Eligibility for Breeding Crown and Elite Breeding Crown titles :

  • Stallion/Mare must be registered with the Australian Sports Pony Registry Inc.

  • Stallion/Mare may be assessed or non-assessed.

  • Owner must be a current financial member of the ASPR Inc.

  • Progeny do not have to be registered with the ASPR Inc for progeny points to be eligible.

  • Completion of the Stallion/Mare Test (AU) is not a compulsory requirement to achieving a Breeding Crown title.

  • Ponies, Small Horse and Over Height Register are all eligible.

  • No maximum age for achieving a Breeding Crown title.

  • Breeding Crown and Elite Breeding Crown titles can only be achieved once in the stallion/mares lifetime.

A stallion or mare having achieved a Breeding Crown title will have the initials 'BC' inserted after their registered name in the ASPR Inc. Stud Book.

A stallion or mare having achieved an Elite Breeding Crown title will have the initials 'EBC' inserted after their registered name in the ASPR Inc. Stud Book.

Owners of stallions and mares who have achieved their Breeding Crowns titles are entitled to advertise them with the initials 'BC' or 'EBC' immediately following their name and may also use the Breeding Crown logo in advertising for that stallion or mare.
